Following the Brighton Festival’s theme of Human Rights, Bookstock is delighted to host a reading by Luis Munoz with a discussion facilitated by Paul Oestreicher, former director of Amnesty International.
Munoz is the author of ‘Being Luis; A Chilean Life’, a powerful account of love, life, death and survival, recounting Chilean history from the 1960s to the present. It charts his magical but at times difficult childhood, his undercover activity as a left-wing activist, his arrest and torture by Pinochet’s military regime, his exile to England and how he overcame his experiences to move forward with his life.
Luis now lives in East Sussex and is a well known commentator on Chilean affairs. He has close links with the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture and the Helen Bamber Foundation.
The reading will be followed by a Question and Answer facilitated by Paul Oestreicher. Paul was former Chair of Amnesty International UK and is current Vice President of CND, and was also the Director of the Centre for International Reconciliation at Coventry Cathedral. He continues to campaign for peace and human rights and is currently in Jamaica at the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Peace Convocation.
Please join us for wine and the chance to meet these two remarkable men.
