Subject: Expanded Dance Space workshop labs – Sat 23rd & Sat 30th July
Hello lovely peeps,
Just wanted to let you know that there are a couple more events coming up in my Expanded Dance Space program – I still have spaces free on both labs, and there is a 50% reduced student / unwaged rate as well! It will be a lot of fun, and you do not need to be a dancer to take part – anybody with an interest in the urban environment, how we inhabit it, move through it and shape it, is very welcome. Please could you pass on the information to your networks & colleagues [full July program attached & lab info below] – many thanks!

Expanded Dance Space Workshop & Lab – parts I & II
With Alan Thompson, CiCi Blumstein & guestsIn this in-depth 2-day workshop, we will examine the relationship between choreography & architecture, movement arts & urban planning, and how these diverse fields could work together to directly impact on the development and shaping of both public and dance space. We will explore these questions through presentations, talks & discussions, practical movement & design exercises, as well as construction & installation.
The lab will take place at BLANK Studios & Gallery plus surrounding area, and we will be working in BLANK’s large project & gallery space, with access to a movement studio and kitchen.
Day two will focus on creating a temporary dance space to reflect and incorporate the findings of the workshops and week-long residency at BLANK Gallery. The day will end with a public showing / inhabiting of the temporary dance space in action.
Alan Thompson is a Senior Design Review Advisor at CABE / The Design Council and the Chairman of Art & Architecture http://artandarchitecture.co.uk/
Day one of the workshop will focus on how dance space and urban/public space is currently defined and how it could be expanded.
Parts I & II can be attended separately.
Times: 11:00am – 5:00pm
Cost: £30, or £50 for both workshops. Lunch included
Please get in touch for reduced student / unwaged rates.
