Express Meeting Agenda – 22 September 2011

Express Meeting Agenda
22 September 2011
Venue: Fabrica, 40 Duke Street, Brighton
5-6.30pm

Supporting young people’s aspirations to work in the arts

1. Liz Whitehead, Co-Director of Fabrica gallery introduces a new
‘artist-in-residence’ initiative with Brighton Youth Centre.

2. Max Wheeler is a producer, musician and rapper specialising in
youth participation and currently working with Audio Active. Max talks
about a recent project at Hangleton & Knoll and Audio Active’s current
thinking on guidance and support for emerging artists.

3. General discussion on supporting young people’s aspirations to work
in the arts
•       What do young people know about the arts and creative industries?
•       How do young people make informed decisions about working in the arts?
•       To what extent are artists and arts organisations currently shaping
this decision-making?
•       Traditional university-based routes into the arts and creative
industries are becoming (prohibitively?) expensive.  Should arts
organisations now be looking to provide alternative pathways into
professional practice?

4. Dates for the next meeting
