Opportunity for YP age 16-25yrs to run a pop up shop in Brighton.

Hello Express members,

Below is an opportunity for YP aged 16-25yrs to run a pop up shop in Brighton? There are still some places for YP to apply to become involved and although not directly related to arts and culture, the products and training could be arts and culture related! Hence email the opportunity to the Express network.

Please forward to any YP who may want to apply.

Many thanks,

Branwen

Hello,

This is a quick update about Retail Ready People in Brighton.

Volunteers and recruitment

Thanks to everyone who assisted us in recruiting young people to the first round of Retail Ready People.  We are going strong with a few weeks left until the programme commences. We have been interviewing applicants and will be in touch with their referees by the end of this week.

Naturally, the process of bringing our potential applicants through the door has raised the usual retention challenges, with people changing plans, dropping out or having new commitments.  This means that we can still accept volunteers on programme, so please encourage young people to complete the abbreviated application form

Volunteers will be asked to commit around 10 hours per week, including:

Date

Activity

23 – 25 September

3 day training camp

Wednesdays throughout October

Weekly training workshops & volunteering – 1 day per week, 5 in total

3 November

Pop-up shop opens

2 December

Pop-up shop closes

12 December

Wrap up and celebrate!

Training

Just as a reminder, Retail Ready People is a free skills development and volunteering programme for 30 young people aged 16 – 25 who want to enter or progress in the retail sector. The fun 12-week programme gives young people the chance to run a one-month pop up on the high street using creativity, energy and amazing ideas. It includes free retail training and weekly skills workshops along the way.

Training sessions will focus on Enterprise and Business Planning (delivered by Enterprise Lab UK) and Retail skills (delivered by the National Skills Academy for Retail). Training will occur on Wednesdays throughout October, with the pop-up shop opening in November. So, if you know someone who would be interested in this opportunity, send them out way!
