Latin Voices Live presents Day of the Dead at Brighton Dome & Brighton Museum



Skeletons, ghouls and ghosts will be coming to a special party for all ages at Brighton Dome & Brighton Musuem on 17 November

Latin Voices Live! is a one-day celebration of Latin cultures from around the world, focusing on Mexico’s most famous holiday Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), which honours and remembers dead loved ones and family.

Saturday 17 November, 10am-5pm. FREE ENTRY all day. Workshops by donation (£2/3)

Come celebrate in the Dome foyer and Founders Room and Brighton Museum with live music, food, film, talks, arts and crafts, visual arts.

At the centre is a specially decorated remembrance table, where we will be honouring legendary Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes, British writer and painter Leonora Carrington, who lived most of her life in Mexico, plus the thousands who have lost their lives due to political unrest and economic conditions.

Family friendly activities

There will be plenty of children and family activities include skull and paper flower making, papel picado, and mask making workshops. Come dressed as ‘day of the dead’ or have your face painted. You can also bring stuff to put on the remembrance table.

Author Luis Muñoz – reading, Q&A, book signing of Being Luis: a Chilean life
Museum Education Pavilion. 3:00pm – 4:00pm

We are honoured to have Luis Muñoz, a former Chilean activist who survived arrest and torture during Pinochet’s regime and authored this harrowing account of his life in his autobiography ‘Being Luis; A Chilean Life’ (Impress Books).

Luis will read from his book on Saturday 17 November, from 3-4pm in Brighton Museum, during Latin Voices Live! Afterwards he will have a question and answer session. Luis will be signing copies of the book, which will be on sale.

Tickets for the reading are £5/3 and include a complimentary glass of wine – they can be purchased in advance from

Latin Voices Live! is organised by Sussex literature organisation Writing Our Legacy, which aims to promote Black and ethnic minority literature and writing, with the participation of MEXSAS, Mexican Student Association at Sussex University, and Brighton’s vibrant Latin community. The festival is funded by Brighton & Hove City Council, with support from Brighton Dome and Brighton Museum.
